the great raid
we went and saw the great raid last night. i had very mixed feeligs about it. i'm glad that a movie was made about the raid on the cabanatuan pow camp, and very glad that the role of the filipino soldiers in the raid wasn't downplayed. but i was dismayed that during the course of the movie, every filipino name that could be mispronounced was. sitting in a theater in the philippines, we were surrounded by laughter whenever one of the american g.i.'s said any filipino word. i was almost embarassed to be american. my one consoling hope was that the movie was reflecting the way the americans said the names back in the day... i hope.
