journey of joy

nasty little bug

i used to play oregon trail quite a bit in elementary school. i would always name my wife after the girl i currently had a crush on and name the kids whatever random names came to mind that day. then we'd pack up our digital oxen and head off to oregon. inevitably, about half way into our journey, one of my children would suddenly up and die of amoebic dysentery. i never knew what that was, but it was dreaded by all pre-pubescent travellers of the oregon trail. well, this week i got a good idea of just what amoebic dysentery is.

melissa, zeb and i got back from the senior seminar trip on friday evening (i'll back-date a post about this in a little bit) and went out to eat since the house had been painted and still smelled. i was fine all day saturday and enjoyed seeing fearless with zach leigh saturday night. but when i got back home fever broke out... headaches... intestinal pains... slight delusions... and a need to visit a c.r. every ten mintues. usually i'm sick no more than 24 hours, so when the last symptom lasted through the second day, i got concerned. for the next 36 hours or so i pumped myself full of water and gatorade since nothing stayed inside me anyway...

saturday night, sunday night, monday night, and tuesday night were rough, to say the least. but here i am, still alive on wednesday afternoon, looking forward to enjoying the 5 days left of march break. sayang they didn't bring gatorade along on the oregon trail.

news on senior seminar and the last week of 3rd quarter on the way...

  • You can buy t-shirts that say "You Have Died Of Dysentery." And they have a cute little picture of a wagon on it.

You just caught 1256 pounds of Gatorade but can only carry 200 pounds back to the wagon. I think that I might have been smart enough to take a second trip.
